Samford Men's Tennis Falls In Road Test At UAB

HOOVER, Ala.-The Samford men's tennis team opened with a strong doubles performance but could not hold the momentum in singles, falling 5-2 to UAB Wednesday at the Hoover Met Tennis Complex. With the result, the Bulldogs move to 6-5 on the season.

Samford's early advantage came from a sharp effort in doubles. The team of Santiago Arredondo and Darcy Nicholls set the tone with a 6-4 win. The doubles point was clinched when Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey delivered a 6-3 victory, giving Samford the early 1-0 lead.

Singles play proved more challenging, as UAB responded by taking five of six matches. Dvorak continued his strong outing by earning Samford's lone singles point with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win. The Bulldogs were competitive across the lineup, with three matches going the distance. Errey forced a deciding set at and Nicholls battled, but UAB's depth and the play of nationally ranked Ondrej Valek sealed the result in the Blazers' favor.

Samford returns home Sunday, March 1 to face Wofford College for their first conference match of the season. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center.
