KENNESAW, Ga.-The Samford men's tennis team fell 5-2 on the road Friday to Kennesaw State University in non-conference action.
The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point and posted two singles wins but were ultimately edged by the Owls, moving to 3-3 on the season.
Samford came out strong in doubles, securing the early team point with victories at courts two and three. The duo of
Darcy Nicholls and
Santiago Arredondo notched a 6-3 win, while the pairing of
Lukas Dvorak and
Cooper Errey delivered a 6-4 victory to clinch the point. The No. 1 doubles match was left unfinished.
In singles, the Bulldogs ran into a determined Kennesaw State lineup, dropping five of six matches.Â
Sebastian Harrison picked up Samford's only singles point with three set 6-4, 1-6, 7-5, victory over Anthony Weingarten.
Continuing in singles Nicholls fell 2-6, 4-6 to Ben Hudson, Arredondo was defeated 0-6, 4-6 by Leon Peranovic, Dvorak was defeated by Nathan Walters 6-4,1-6, 4-6, and
Vitorio Sardinha fell short 1-6, 4-6 against Kyvan Rietkerk.
Vitorio Sardinha was defeated by Xavi Ferrer 1-6, 4-6.
Samford will return to action in Birmingham on Sunday, Feb. 8, to host Troy University. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
