CHARLESTON, S.C.-The Samford men's tennis team battled past The Citadel for a 4-3 Southern Conference victory Monday at the Earle Tennis Center.
In a match with major implications for the conference standings, the Bulldogs showed resilience in both doubles and singles to secure the hard-fought road win. After a tense doubles session, Samford relied on the depth of its singles lineup to clinch the contest and stay on track in SoCon play.
Samford took the crucial doubles point by prevailing in two contested matches. The pairing of Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey secured a 7-6 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Santiago Arredondo and Parker Free delivered another 7-6 win at No. 3. The No. 1 duo of Sandeep Mohandoss and Darcy Nicholls narrowly dropped their match in a tiebreak, but Samford ultimately captured the doubles point to take an early advantage.
Singles action featured dramatic momentum swings on nearly every court, with Samford's depth proving decisive. Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey delivered straight-sets victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, while Hayden Menon dominated at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-1 win. The Citadel claimed points in several lengthy matches, but the Bulldogs' early momentum and clutch play in the lower flights made the difference in the final score.
