Samford's Booth and Faulkner Earn SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Samford men's basketball team had two individuals receive accolades from the Southern Conference office today as they released their All-Conference awards. Jadin Booth is the first Samford athlete to earn Player of the Year honors, as he was named to the Newcomer of the Year and to the All-SoCon First Team. Dylan Faulkner was named to the First Team and was named to the All-Defense team.

In his first season in Birmingham, Booth has put his name all over the Samford record books. He recently broke the school record for three pointers in a game with 11 in a win against UNCG, where he tied his career-high with 40 points. He has started all 29 games he played this season, averaging 21.2 points per game, leading the conference and sitting as the 17th highest scorer in the nation. He leads the country in three pointers made with 119, two off breaking the school record while shooting 43 percent from behind the arc. He scored over 25 points 12 times this season while averaging over 36 minutes per game.

Faulkner has been a dominant force in the paint for the Dogs in his first season at Samford. The junior big came with head coach Lennie Acuff from Lipscomb and had career-highs across the board. He averaged 17.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in the 29 games he played this season. He had 12 double-doubles, 11 of which came in SoCon play. He had a season-high 27 points at Mercer, as he shot 62 percent from the floor on the year. On the defensive end, Faulkner blocked a total of 42 shots and was second in the conference with 1.4 per game.

Booth and Faulkner were the highest-scoring duo in the conference, averaging a combined 38.5 points per game on the season.

The Bulldogs finished the season with an 18-13 record overall and an 11-7 mark in league play as they finished in a tie for second place. They will be the three seed in the upcoming tournament and will take on Furman in the first round of the SoCon Tournament on Saturday night at 5 p.m.
