BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a tightly contested 4-3 match against Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center. This match was the Bulldogs last match of the season, ending their regular season at 11-10 overall and 3-4 in SoCon play.
Samford started strong securing the doubles point,claiming a 2-1 edge over Chattanooga in doubles play. The pairing of
Hailey Troup and
Eleni Liakonis delivered a 6-0 victory while
Cathy Cardona-Carballosa and
Laila Fishman earned a 6-4 win, to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 advantage.
Chattanooga's momentum came in singles play, winning four matches to secure the overall victory. The Bulldogs' lone singles points came at the top of the lineup and towards the end, with Cardona-Carballosa winning her match with two straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Fishman showed a dominant performance defeating her opponent, 6-1, 6-2.
However, straight-set defeats for
Sara Erenda,
Lea Erenda,
Eleni Liakonis, and
Hailey Troup, allowed Chattanooga to clinch the match 4-3.
Samford will travel to Chattanooga, TN next week for the SoCon Conference Tournament which starts on April 16th through April 18th.
