Samford Men's Tennis Edges Mercer in 4-3 SoCon Thriller at Home

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford men's tennis earned a hard fought 4-3 victory over Mercer in a pivotal Southern Conference showdown Tuesday at the Samford Tennis Center. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 14-6 overall and 6-1 in SoCon play.

Samford set the tone early by capturing the doubles point. The Bulldogs claimed two doubles victories, highlighted by a 7-5 win from Sebastian Harrison and Vitorio Sardinha, along with a 6-2 triumph by Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey. With a 1-0 lead in hand, Samford leaned on its lower singles positions to secure the narrow win.

The Bulldogs took three of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Sebastian Harrison continued his outstanding season with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, pushing his season singles record to 13-5. Lukas Dvorak was equally impressive in a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 4, while Martin Schwartzman provided the most dominant performance of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6. All three of Samford's singles defeats came in tightly contested three-set matches at the top of the lineup, with Mercer prevailing in each.

The doubles point proved to be the difference for the Bulldogs, who are now 6-1 in matches decided by a 4-3 score this season, including a perfect 3-0 in such outcomes during SoCon play.

Samford will turn its attention to the Southern Conference Tournament, set for April 16-18 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
