STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Samford men's tennis team ended another historic season with a 4-1 loss to Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon at Mississippi State University.
With the loss, Samford ended its season with a mark of 17-7, while Wisconsin improved to 18-7 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This marks the second-straight NCAA Tournament bid for Samford, the first time the Bulldogs have earned bids in back-to-back seasons in program history.
Samford took an early lead by securing the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles,
Sandeep Mohandoss and
Darcy Nicholls defeated Ferdinand Kloesters and Michael Minasyan, 6-4. After Wisconsin won on the No. 3 doubles court, Samford secured the point on the No. 2 court where
Sebastian Harrison and
Vitorio Sardinha earned a 7-6 win over Edouard Aubert and Tomas Zlatohlavek.
Wisconsin came back in singles with wins on the No. 5, No. 6, No. 3 and No. 2 courts to take the 4-1 win. The matches on the No. 1 and No. 4 singles courts were not finished.
