Bulldogs Place 214 On SoCon’s Academic Honor Roll

SPARTANBURG, S.C.— Samford Athletics placed 214 student-athletes on the Southern Conference's Academic Honor Roll, released by the league Wednesday afternoon.

The Academic Honor Roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The Academic Honor Roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher for the academic year, were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists. The award is different from the Academic All-Conference award, which is determined by cumulative GPA and involves a participation requirement.

Of Samford's 214 student-athletes on the team, the football team led the way with 34, with baseball and women's track & field and cross-country following with 27 each. The soccer team placed 26 on the Academic Honor Roll.

A total of 73 Samford student-athletes earned a Commissioner's Medal, posting a 3.8 or higher GPA.
Samford had 22 student-athletes to earn a 4.0 GPA.
