MOBILE, Ala. – Samford junior
Alex Parr scored with just over two minutes to go as the Bulldog soccer team fought South Alabama to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at The Cage.
With the result, Samford is now 2-0-2 on the season. South Alabama's record moved to 1-2-1.
South Alabama struck first with a goal by Andrea Lazar off an assist from Aliya Gomes in the 28th minute of the contest. The goal was the first goal allowed by the Bulldogs this season. The teams headed into halftime with South Alabama leading, 1-0.
Neither team could score through most of the second half. In the 88
th minute, Smith took a corner kick and she found Parr, who scored on a header to knot the score at 1-1.
For the match,
Sam De Luca led Samford with three shots.
Mamie Carman,
Martha Bishop,
Brooklyn Miller and
Brinley Murphy had two shots each for Samford. Goalkeeper
Peyton Hull had one save and allowed one goal.
For South Alabama, Lazar took the Jaguars' only two shots. USA goalkeeper Mackenzie Smith saved nine shots, allowing one goal.
Samford will return home to play host to Jacksonville State on Thursday, August 27, at 6 p.m. at Shauna Yelton Field.
