TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Samford volleyball team fell to Alabama in its season opener, 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25), Friday evening at Foster Auditorium.
The match opened with several points back and forth, but ultimately the Bulldogs fell in the first set 25-23, then 25-20 in the second set, won the third 25-23, and lost the final set 20-25.
Senior outside hitter
Ally Cordes led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .143. Freshman.
Amyra Burchik followed with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .086. In her first match as a Bulldog, Freshman
Maggie Kalisz had a total of 31 assists and four blocks. Samford would finish with a hitting percentage of .157 out of 134 total attempts. They would also finish with a total of eight blocks.
For Alabama, Kaleigh Palmer led with 11 kills and had a hitting percentage of .047. Mya Allen followed behind her with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .088. Alabama would finish as a team with a hitting percentage of .200. They would also finish with six blocks.
Alabama will play tomorrow in the Foster Auditorium against UC Riverside at 5 p.m.
Samford will continue its season opening weekend on Sunday when the Bulldogs face UC Riverside at 1 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center.
