Bulldogs Drop a Hard Fought Five Set Battle to North Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a hard fought five set battle to North Alabama to open the Samford Invitational, falling 3-2 (17-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-10) on Friday evening at the Pete Hanna Center.
With the loss, Samford goes to 1-5 on the season, while North Alabama improves to 9-0. Samford opened the match with a 25-17 win in set one, and 25-23 in set two before North Alabama took the next three sets 25-20, 25-19 and 15-10.
Senior outside hitter Ally Cordes led the way for Samford, posting her third double-double of the season with 21 kills to go along with 13 digs with a .286 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Brianna Hamilton also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs, while recording a .250 hitting percentage. Brooklyn Drumwright led the Bulldogs with 19 digs, while Jamie Stinchcomb totaled five blocks. Freshman setter Alison Ohlinger had 50 assists.
For North Alabama, Resse Ricketts led the way with 21 kills and 10 digs, while having a .278 hitting percentage. Ava Martindale recorded 25 digs while Kinslee McGowan recorded 37 assists.
The Bulldogs close the Samford Invitational with Jacksonville State on Sunday at 4 p.m.
