Men's Golf Takes Second, Rasmussen Finishes Tied For First

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Samford men's golf team opened its season this week as they competed at the Grover Page Classic. The Bulldogs used a strong final round to take second place as a team, while Ryder Rasmussen competed as an individual and was one of four athletes to tie for first place.
Blake Gayles led the Dogs as he fired rounds of 71-72-70 en route to a four-under fifth-place finish. Campbell Sciortino and Jack Mikesell finished tied for 11th in the tournament as they each shot rounds of 71,72, and 73 over the two-day event. Mark Neeley and Wils Moore finished 34th and 52nd respectively, in the 68 man field.
Rasmussen and Nolen Wolfe competed as individuals for the Bulldogs in the event. Freshman Rasmussen jumped up the leaderboard with an opening round of 68. He followed it up with a 71 and closed with a 73 today to finish in a four-way tie for first place. Wolfe got off to a slower start with a 75, but he bounced back in the afternoon yesterday with a 69. He closed with a 73 today to finish tied for 15th.
The Bulldogs will look to build off their strong play when they are back in action at the beginning of next week at the Bayou City Collegiate in Houston, Texas.
