A true Northeast point guard . . . tenacious defender and hard-nosed competitor . . . has the ability to both run an offense and break down defenses off the dribble . . . played against a very high level of competition on both the EYBL circuit and the Philadelphia Catholic School league . . . those experiences have served him well in the Southern Conference.

Freshman (2016-17):  Named to the SoCon’s All-Freshman Team as voted by the league’s head coaches . . . named to the SoCon’s All-Freshman Team as voted by the league’s media . . . finished the season ranked first in the conference in steals with 71 . . . set the school’s single-season record in steals with 71 . . . set Samford’s single-game record in steals with seven on the road at Western Carolina (Jan. 2) . . . closed out the year ranked No. 14 in the nation in total steals with 71 . . . set the school’s all-time freshman record in assists with 150 . . . proved to be one of five Samford players last season to average at least 8.2 points per game . . . tallied the first double-double of his collegiate career on Dec. 28, by scoring 11 points and adding 10 assists . . . played a key role in the Bulldogs finishing the season ranked first in the SoCon in defensive rebounds per game (26.5), free throws made (645) and total rebounds (1,300) . . . Samford also closed out the year ranked No. 4 in the nation in free throw attempts (868), No. 17 in assists (581) and No. 18 in 3-point field-goal percentage (39.5) . . . scored a career-high 23 points on the road against Furman on Feb. 11 . . . he also pulled down a career-high nine rebounds against the Paladins . . . earned key playing time in all 36 of the team’s games on the season . . . averaged 22.5 minutes per outing . . . finished the year scoring 8.2 points per contest . . . logged a career-high 39 minutes on the road against ETSU on Jan. 25 . . . earned his first varsity letter.


 
High School:  Starred throughout his prep career at Archbishop Carroll High School in Philadelphia . . . an excellent ball-handler and impressive floor general . . . named to the roster of the annual Philly/New York City Classic, which features some the best high school talent in the Northeast . . . proved to be one of only 10 players in the Philadelphia area to earn the distinction . . . competed for Team Final on the AAU circuit and turned quite a few heads during the summer, especially after shining at the Peach Jam in July . . . received heavy interest from Dayton, Penn State, East Carolina, Wofford, Tulsa, James Madison, Boston University, Penn, Quinnipiac and Fairleigh Dickinson . . . at the 2015 Peach Jam, which is one of the biggest AAU tournaments in the nation, he averaged 9.8 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest . . . during his entire AAU season, he averaged 7.1 points per game and shot 44 percent from the floor in 20 appearances . . . boosting his stock was the ability to hold his own against Alterique Gilbert, who is listed as one of the best point guards in the country and signed to play at UConn . . . entered his senior season ranked as the ninth best player in Pennsylvania by ESPN.com and boasts top-notch defensive skills that fit perfectly in Samford’s up-tempo, full-court pressing style of play.
 
Personal:  His cousin, Jameer Nelson, is in the midst of his 14th season in the NBA and is currently playing with the New Orleans Pelicans . . . Nelson starred at St. Joe’s and also spent time with the Orlando Magic (2004-14), Dallas Mavericks (2014-15), Boston Celtics (2014-15) and Denver Nuggets (2014-17) . . . undeclared major.
