High School: Gardner was named the DeKalb County Player of the Year at Columbia High School, playing both linebacker and safety . . . he finished his career with 137 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and one defensive touchdown . . . he was named to the 5A All-State team . . . Gardner also served as a team captain.
