10/10 times chicken stir fry
What is your favorite book?
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
If you could pick three famous people to be a part of your entourage, who would you pick?
One famous person I would want in my entourage would be Tiger Woods. The guy just knows what it takes to be successful and his work ethic is unmatched. Dwayne Johnson is another one. Being able to lift with him would be awesome and his entrepreneurship is unmatched. The third is Mike Trout. Who wouldn’t be friends with the best baseball player to live?
What band would you be embarrassed to admit you listen to?
Not a band, but the new Shawn Mendes album is kinda good.
What is something you're determined to accomplish one day?
I want to be able to own my own business one day.
Why Samford? What made you decide to bring your talents to this university?
Well, both of my parents graduated from Samford so that is how I knew of the school. I was born in Montgomery and have a lot of family that live in the area, so I wanted to come back and experience life out here as well as be able to get a great education and play baseball.
How has your unique Samford experience positioned you to reach your goals?
I have been able to meet a ton of different people from all over the country who have the same desire to be able to have successful business opportunities. Because of this, we are able to encourage each other in our work and learn from each other.
What are some of your major takeaways from your time as a Samford student-athlete so far?
A major takeaway that I have being a student-athlete at Samford is to not shy away from having a conversation you wouldn’t normally have. You never know what that conversation may do for your future or theirs.
Who has had the greatest impact on your time here at Samford? Please share why.
My teammates have definitely had the greatest impact on me throughout my time. As a walk-on from California, I knew no one and no one knew me. The guys on the team welcomed me and I was able to learn a lot from them as they encouraged me throughout my first year. I couldn’t be more grateful for the guys that I have spent the past 3.5 years with that I will be lifelong friends with.
How would your teammates describe you both on and off the field?
My teammates would probably say I am pretty lighthearted and easy to be around, but can also be focused and intense. I would say this could be for both on and off the field.
How tough was it to get the news of the season's cancellation in March, when the team was off to a program-best 13-2 start? What was the initial reaction?
It was very tough. We were all very disappointed. We felt like we got robbed. We were rolling and showing up to the field everyday with the mindset that we were going to win, so we were definitely disappointed.
With almost everyone on the team returning this year, what are the goals for what this team can accomplish in 2021?
I think the possibilities are endless. Baseball is an unbelievable game where anyone can beat anyone. With the unbelievable amount of talent that we have on our team this year, I would not be surprised if we win a regional and find ourselves in a super. Coach Dunn says that every year we want to accomplish something different. Even last year in the short year we had, we accomplished something new. I just believe that with the determination and drive our team has to be responsible on the COVID end and keeping everyone healthy and desiring to win, I think we could do some really special things.
Who are some of the new faces who might contribute immediately?
This freshman class is really impressive. There are a lot of them, but Colton Ledbetter is a really talented left handed hitter and outfielder for us who could have a big impact. Carson Hobbs, who is a right handed pitcher with a good three pitch mix, is also someone to watch.
What would you like your roll on this year's team to be?
This year, I want to be a guy who everyone in our dugout can count on to get the job done. Whether I’m at the plate or in the outfield, I want everyone to feel like I can and will do my job.
Final message from Towns:
"The support that y’all are able to provide to our program is unbelievable. The guys and I are so extremely grateful to be able to have people like y’all to make it possible for us to be able to do what we do. I want to thank y’all for everything you do for our program. Go Dogs!"
