Q&A with Head Baseball Coach, Tony David
Tell us about your family.
We have 2 daughters (Peyton 16, Addison 14) and 1 son (Tyler 9) who are also heavily involved in sports outside of Samford. Both girls are outstanding volleyball players and our son plays baseball year round.
What is your favorite thing to do in Birmingham?
We love to go to Top Golf.
Where did you go to college? Were you a student-athlete?
I went to South Alabama where I played baseball for Steve Kittrell.
What is your most memorable Samford Baseball win so far?
Beating #7 Florida State in the 2018 NCAA Tournament at their field in front of a capacity crowd on national television.
How would you describe your coaching philosophy?
High energy, up tempo, positive mentally committed to the process of overall player development. I will continue to recruit power as I always have but also have a focus on defense and speed to score in other ways besides home runs.
What are you most looking forward to as you step into your new role of Head Coach?
The overall process of constructing a roster and preparation to get ready for every game.
Final Message from Coach David:
"Our athletics administration has shown us great support over the years and in the head coach transition. But the only way any college baseball program can thrive is through the outside donations that allow us to acquire more of the "extras," which help attract more talented players and then to train and develop their abilities once they arrive. It's the only way we keep it moving forward."
