Marc Salyers

Marc Salyers, who is ranked sixth on Samford’s all-time scoring list with 1,604 career points, is in his first season on the Bulldogs’ staff as a student assistant. During his well-publicized time as a player, Salyers led Samford to NCAA Tournament appearances in both 1999 and 2000. He will be a part of the staff throughout the 2014-15 campaign as he completes all of his hours at Samford and earns his degree.

Salyers starred under former head coach Jimmy Tillette and scored 537 points as a junior in 1999-2000. He also led the Bulldogs in scoring as a senior in 2000-01 with 498 points.

After leaving Birmingham in 2001, Salyers spent the next 13 seasons playing professionally in Europe. Most recently, the former two-time all-conference performer competed for the BC Orchies basketball squad in France. Throughout his brilliant professional career, Salyers also played in Italy, Turkey, Lebanon, Ukraine, Georgia and South Korea. In 2007, he led Roanne to the 2007 French League championship.

Salyers, a native of Owensboro, Ky., also earned a spot on the New Orleans Hornets’ 2009 Summer League roster, which also featured current NBA players Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton, as well as Julian Wright. The team was coached by New Orleans scout Rob Werdann.
