Woodie Eubanks

2011 SOCON COACH OF THE YEAR

Woodie Eubanks, a former Samford golfer and 1998 alum, is in the midst of his 10th year as head coach of the Samford's men's golf team. In 2011, he guided his young Bulldog squad to a fourth-place finish in the Southern Conference Championships and was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

Samford’s starting lineup in 2011 was comprised of only one senior and four sophomores. The Bulldogs’ talented, yet youthful roster posted a three-round total of 875 at the SoCon Championship, its best score of the spring and its third lowest tally of the 2010-11 campaign.

Under Eubanks’ tutelage, Samford’s squad continually improved throughout the 2011 season and turned in one of its top performances in the postseason championship. The Bulldogs’ fourth-place finish was their best result in four years as members of the prestigious SoCon.

During his highly successful tenure at Samford, Eubanks has led his teams to their first conference championships, their first NCAA Championship appearance and their highest rankings in school history. He has also led Samford to 10 event championships and nine individual titles.

With high academic standards a trademark of the Samford golf programs, Eubanks has coached two freshmen of the year and 23 all-academic honorees. He has also guided the Bulldogs to a perfect 100-percent Academic Progress Rating (APR) for both the men's and women's teams.

In only Eubanks' second season as head coach, he led the Bulldogs to the championship title of the 2005 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship. During the championship run, he coached the OVC's Most Valuable Player and three OVC First-Team honorees. In 2005, the Bulldogs advanced to their first NCAA Regional Championship competition held at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.

During his time at Samford, Eubanks has greatly improved the golf programs' national rankings. He has also given even more credibility to the Bulldogs in the area of players, tournaments and schedules. For five seasons, 2007-11, Eubanks was also the head coach of the Samford women’s golf program.

Originally from Greer, S.C., Eubanks is married to the former Jayme Crews. The couple has three children, A.C., 11, Mary Katherine, 6, and Crews, 3.
