Chris Kuhlmeyer begins his fourth season as an assistant coach at Samford University following a two-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Baylor University. He currently serves as Samford's recruiting coordinator and assists with all of the coaching duties. Kuhlmeyer works primarily with the catchers and hitters, and oversees field maintenance of the award-winning Bulldog Field.
Born in Pensacola, Fla., Kuhlmeyer attended Anacoco High School in Louisiana, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and golf. He then attended LSU, where he spent his first three years as the manager of the softball program. During his time in that capacity, Kuhlmeyer was responsible for maintaining the equipment and the field, and also assisted Head Coach Glenn Moore by charting the opposing hitters and pitchers.
Following his graduation from LSU in 1999, Kuhlmeyer joined Moore's staff as a volunteer assistant coach, where he was responsible for scouting opponents and assisting in practice duties.
Kuhlmeyer made the trek to Baylor in July of 2000, following Moore from LSU. While at Baylor, he worked primarily with the catchers and assisted with the hitters. He was also responsible for coaching first base during games and oversaw all of the groundskeeping duties at Getterman Stadium.
Kuhlmeyer has coached and assisted in several softball camps and clinics over the past eight years. He has also coached a highly-successful 16-and-under ASA team and is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Kuhlmeyer is married to the former Shelley Dykes of Baton Rouge, La. The couple attends Hunter Street Baptist Church.
