Samford University Athletics

Megan Curry enters her third season as head coach of the Samford University Softball team. Curry was named the 11th head coach in Bulldog softball history on June 7th, 2024.

Curry led Samford to a 28-31 record in 2026. Facing one of the top schedules in the country, the Dogs faced nine ranked opponents during the season. The highlight came as Samford knocked off number two Alabama at home 3-2. Curry coached SoCon preseason and regular season Player of the Year, Olivia Shaw. Samford finished one game away from the SoCon Championship as they fell to UNCG in the SoCon Championship game.

In her first season with the Bulldogs, she led her team to a 33-23 record in the 2025 season. The Dogs won five of their seven conference series and had a third-place finish in the Southern Conference Tournament.

Curry, one of the most decorated players in Samford softball history, returns to Lakeshore Drive after a successful season as head coach at Birmingham-Southern College, where she was named Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Coach of the Year. In her lone year at the helm of the Panthers, BSC finished runner-up in the conference with a 24-17 overall record and a 13-5 mark in league play.

She began her coaching career as an assistant at Samford from 2016-18 before moving to become an assistant at Mercer in the 2019-20 season. She got her first head coaching experience at Division III Asbury University, in Wilmore, Kentucky where she was head coach for three seasons. 

As a player for Samford, Curry was a standout center fielder for the Bulldogs from 2013 to 2016. She led the team in hitting in three of her four seasons and was named the SoCon Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the program's first SoCon regular season title in 2016. That season, the team also won the SoCon Tournament and reached the program's first NCAA Tournament. Dowdy's .437 batting average in 2015 and her 24 doubles in 2016 are both still school single-season records. She still holds the career record for doubles with 48, and her .363 career average was a school record at the end of her career and currently ranks second in school history.
