Paul DuBose is in the midst of his first season as an assistant coach at Samford University. He was officially named to the position on Aug. 28, and his commitment and hard work has already made a positive impact on the Samford softball program.
DuBose possesses a wealth of experience at the collegiate level and assists with all of Samford's coaching duties.
He is also heavily involved in the recruiting process and oversees maintenance of the award-winning Bulldog Field. Dubose coordinated Samford's inaugural Groundhog Day Dinner and helped launched the team's booster club "Dogs to the Top".
"We're very glad to have Paul on our coaching staff," said Samford head coach Beanie Ketcham. "He is an extremely sharp guy and has already brought a lot of good, fresh ideas to the table. He coached under a couple of really experienced collegiate coaches and has a great understanding of the game."
DuBose came to Samford after spending the previous two years as the top assistant coach at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn.
In 2005, DuBose oversaw the pitching staff at Trevecca and helped guide the team to its first TranSouth Conference title.
The team broke 22 team and individual records, and led the nation in batting average, runs per game and stolen bases. Trevecca also posted the third-longest winning streak in NAIA history at 26 games.
Last season, DuBose took over the speed and strength program at Trevecca, and also coached the outfield. The team went on to set an NAIA record with 62 home runs, while winning both the TransSouth Conference and the Region XI championship.
Trevecca also qualified for the school's first NAIA National Tournament and finished tied for fifth in the event.
While at Trevecca, DuBose handled the team's travel arrangements, game-day operations, equipment purchases and fundraising efforts.
He also spearheaded the Trojan Softball Golf Scramble, Christmas Dinner and Auction, and the first Trevecca Softball Home Run Derby. DuBose was also an adjunct faculty member, maintained the Trojan Softball Complex and served as the huddle coach for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
During the summer, DuBose took over as head coach of the Tennessee Edge 16-under travel team.
His squad qualified for the 16-Under ASA National Championships and finished tied for 25th out of 137 teams. The Edge also won their pool and garnered a No. 1 seed while competing in the 18-under event of the prestigious Colorado Fireworks Tournament.
A member of the NFCA, DuBose began his association with collegiate softball as a team manager at Middle Tennessee.
During his time at MTSU, the Blue Raiders won their only OVC title in 2000 and competed in the NCAA Regionals. In 2002, DuBose was promoted to volunteer graduate assistant coach. He earned a bachelor's of business administration in marketing (2002) and master's of science in sport management (2004) from Middle Tennessee.
