Andy Stoots is in his fourth season as an assistant coach at Samford University and was named to the position on April 5, 2010. Stoots, who was also an assistant coach at Belmont University, East Tennessee State and Troy University, possesses a wealth of experience at the collegiate level and has helped the Bulldogs reach new heights, both on the recruiting trail and on the pitch.

Stoots came to Samford after spending the 2010 campaign at Belmont. He spent the previous six seasons on staff at East Tennessee State, the final three of which as the associate head coach. With the Lady Bucs, he focused on goalkeeper development and saw a pair of student-athletes combine for 15 program records and allowed only 28 goals in 2007.

Prior to East Tennessee State, Stoots served as an assistant coach at Troy University in 2003. That season, the Trojans set a program-record for the lowest goals-against average. He also assisted the team in a dramatic academic turnaround that saw 12 student-athletes record grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.

Stoots also spent the 2002 season as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s soccer programs at his alma mater, Milligan College. The Lady Buffs earned a spot in the Region XI Finals, and Stoots played an instrumental role in Milligan’s goalkeeper receiving All-America honors.

Stoots has been on the Tennessee State Olympic Development Program staff for six years, with specialization in goalkeeper instruction. He was part of the Region III ODP staff as goalkeeper coach in 2010 and served as a site representative for the 2009 NCAA Women’s College Cup.

A four-year letterwinner in net at Milligan, Stoots was a team captain his final two seasons. He established a new school standard with 15 victories in 2001. Stoots holds the Milligan school records for career shutouts, career goals-against average and wins.

A native of Bristol, Tenn., Stoots earned a bachelor’s degree from Milligan College in human performance and exercise science in 2002. He also holds a USSF National D License and an NSCAA Premier Diploma.

Stoots and his wife, Tiffany, have two children, Ethan, 6, and Audrey, 4.
