Paul Tyson enters his first season as an assistant football coach at Samford.
Tyson, the great-grandson of legendary Alabama football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, comes to Samford after spending the 2025 season as an offensive assistant coach at Clemson.
In 2024, Tyson served as a graduate student player/coach when he transitioned to student coaching while retaining his eligibility and roster spot as an emergency quarterback.
Tyson played quarterback at Alabama from 2019 to 2021, Arizona State in 2022 and Clemson in 2023 and 2024.
Tyson earned a B.A. in liberal studies from Arizona State University in 2023 and a master’s in athletic leadership from Clemson in 2024.
