BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford Volleyball announces the hiring of Matthew Scott as its new Assistant Coach. Hailing from Louisville, Ky., Scott will begin duties with the team on June 3.
“Matt comes highly recommended from many coaches that I respect and consider mentors in this profession,” said Samford Head Coach
Derek Schroeder. “He has experience with a top 25 program, has recruiting ties in an area we recruit heavily and has a great volleyball IQ. These are all things that will enhance our program.
“We have built this program on relationships and culture and an addition of this caliber is another building block to help take us to new heights.”
Scott has worked in numerous roles with the University of Louisville volleyball program since he started as an Assistant to the Executive Director of Volleyball Operations in 2010. Most recently, he served as the team's graduate assistant and video coordinator with key roles in the team's recruiting, scouting and day-to-day responsibilities.
With Louisville serving as the host for the 2012 NCAA Championships, Scott was the Assistant to the Assistant Athletic Director for the NCAA Championships, supporting the NCAA in the planning and execution of the event. During the 2011-12 season, he was the Head Assistant Coach of the Union 16 Adidas club team in Louisville, assisting in the coaching and conditioning efforts of the team.
Scott will earn his Masters of Arts Degree in Higher Education this May from Louisville after earning a Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration last spring.
