Samford University's men's and women's cross country teams each had top 10 finishes at the 2000 Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. The women's team finished sixth out of the 26 teams and the men's team finished seventh out the 23 men's teams that competed.
Freshman Lauren Floyd led the Bulldog women with a time of 18:29.42 over the 5,000 meter course. Her time was good for 26th place out of the 198 runners. Junior Katie Flewellyn ran the course in 18:41.47 to finish in 33rd place and sophomore Erin Giesa placed 45th with a time of 19:01.37. Alabama's Ashley LaBudde won the race with a time of 17:04.83, but the Crimson Tide finished behind Samford in seventh place.
The University of South Florida swept both the men's and women's team titles. On the men's side, once again Alabama's Chris Mutai won the 8,000 meter race with a time of 23:56.93. Samford sophomore Mark McBride was the top Bulldog finisher in 21st place with a time of 24:58.26. Brett Baddorf and Andrew Spear finished in 30th and 32nd place. Baddorf ran the course in 25:09.51 and Spear in 25:13.02.
