Samford falls to Alabama in Women's Tennis Opener

Jan. 21, 2001

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Samford University women's tennis team opened the 2001 season a little later than it had planned. The opening match at the University of Alabama was delayed four hours due to Alabama's morning match against the University of Denver. The match was shortened to the first team with four points due to the late start.

Alabama would claim the doubles point as it won all three matches. Berard and Glinzler defeated Samford's Katherine Jayroe and Natalya Spicker 8-0. Leung and Baum won 8-3 at number two doubles over Emily Nunnally and Brooke Bryant. Chang and Mathew defeated Courtney Collins and Kristen Upp at number three doubles.

Emmanuelle Berard won at number one singles for the Tide as she defeated Collins 6-1,6-0. Mathew defeated Nunnally 6-2,6-0 at number the number two seed and Glinzler won 6-0,6-0 over Bryant to close the match for Alabama in the number four seed match.
