Sophomore Brett Baddorf ran the 8K in 27:38 to finish fifth to lead the Samford men's cross country team to a second place finish in the 2001 Pre- District South Invitational hosted by UAB. The Bulldogs had six runners finish in the top 15 out of 78 runners.
Andrew Spear finished three places behind Baddorf. He finished eighth with a time of 27:54. Mark Rowe (28:00.45) was ninth while Brett's brother Bryan Baddorf was 10th with a time of 28:00.99. Chad Johnson's (28:18) 12th place finish and Nic Cowan's (28:36.82) 14th place finish rounded out the top 15 for the Bulldogs. Freshman Jonathan Jeff ran a time of 29:35 to place 28th.
As a team, the Bulldogs scored 44 points - 22 less than first place Eastern Kentucky. Western Kentucky (70), Vanderbilt (126) and Birmingham-Southern (128) rounded out the top five teams.
All scores in the women's race had to be thrown out due to the running of the wrong course. Samford was on track to finish in the top five as well.
The Bulldogs' next meet will be Saturday morning at the Pre-NCAA Regional in Greenville, S.C. hosted by Furman University.
