Samford: Samford has won three of its four season openers under Tillette, the only loss last year at Louisiana Monroe, 69-63 . . . Samford is 1-4 against teams from California . . . a win against LMU would bring Jimmy Tillette to within 15 victories of becoming Samford's all-time wins leader, AND set up a possible game with Alabama on Wednesday . . . Sophomore Tyson Dorsey scored 16 points and Chris Weaver and Phillip Ramelli added 11 each in Samford's exhibition win over VASDA . . . in Jimmy Tillette's four years at Samford, the Bulldogs have posted a 12-10 (.545) mark in games played on a neutral floor . . . Samford begins this season with 10 freshmen and sophomores, but four of the Bulldogs' five current sophomores played in at least half of Samford's 29 games last season . . . Samford led the TAAC in scoring defense last season and finished 19th in the nation allowing 62.7 points per game . . . Loyola Marymount is one of six teams that Samford plays this season for the first time in history . . . the Bulldogs will look to replace 31 points and 11 rebounds from the missing Marc Salyers and Derrick Jones

Loyola Marymount: The Lions posted a 9-19 overall mark in 2000-01 and a 5-9 record in the West Coast Conference . . . LMU returns eight players with experience, including seven seniors . . . Loyola Marymount Head Coach Steve Aggers is 324-289 in 22 seasons as a head coach and 9-19 at LMU in one season.

Inside Stuff: Both teams have only one returning player in double digits in scoring . . . Samford was 14-5 in games when leading at halftime, but 1-6 when trailing at the half . . . The Bulldogs shot 59 percent versus their opponents' 71 percent from the free throw line in its 14 losses last season.
