March 25, 2001

PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii - Andy McRae shot a two-under par 70 in the final round and finished sixth at the Kauai Collegiate Cup at Princeville, hosted by Western Kentucky University at the Princeville Makai Course last weekend.

McRae finished the tournament at an even-par 72-74-70=216 and was joined by Russell Kelly (72-75-75=222) as Samford's representatives in the tournament's Top 10. Host Western Kentucky's Eric Mason won the tournament with a nine-under-par 207.

"We got a very good individual performance from Andy McRae, who continues to establish himself as our top player," said coach Ian Thompson. "He played well against a good field with some outstanding individual players. I thought we also had a pretty solid team performance against some solid teams, including Dartmouth, who was in the east regional last season. Russell Kelly also was a steady player for us this weekend."

San Diego University (869) won the team title, followed by Western Kentucky (878), Eastern Michigan (880), Marquette (885), Cincinnati (869), Samford (896), Drake (897) and Dartmouth (916).

Seth Mobley shot 79-74-76=229 and Mike Clements fired 74-82-73=229 to tie at 28th and Stephen Twelkemeier shot 83-87-78=248 to place 41st and round out the Bulldog lineup in Hawaii.
