Guarani, Brazil - Heidi Kearns and Lindsay Shanks each scored goals as Samford defeated Brazilian Champions Guarani 2-1 to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 record on their Brazilian Tour.

Guarani, represented Brazil in the South American Championships in Chile last season and had not lost a match in over a year. The Champs looked to be en route to another victory as they scored first to take a 1-0 lead. But Kearns scored the tying goal and with less than five minutes remaining in regulation Shanks scored the game-winner.

Samford split its 24-player roster into two teams once again on Thursday. In the first match Motorola defeated Samford 2-0 in a rain soaked match. The loss evened the Bulldogs record at 4-4 on the tour. But the rain stopped for the nightcap and the Bulldogs rallied for the victory to make the trip a successful one.

The Bulldogs have one full day remaining in Brazil. On Saturday the team will begin the long flight back to Birmingham. The team is due to arrive back at Seibert Hall on Sunday afternoon in time to begin classes on Monday.
