BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Samford senior goalkeeper Carrie Ollom recorded six saves but it wasn't enough as Bowling Green handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season, a 2-0 defeat at Cochrane Field on BGSU's campus. Falcon junior Jill Conover and freshman Kristy Coppes scored goals while goalie Erica Flanders shut out the Bulldogs for her second shutout of the season.

"We played well at times," Samford head coach Barry Spitzer said. "We weren't as organized as we needed to be in the box. We had a couple of defensive breakdowns which they capitalized on."

Bowling Green scored at the 28:07 mark in the first period. Freshman Beth Rieman lofted a long shot from the right side that was saved by Ollom. However, Ollom could not hold on to the ball, and Conover kicked in the rebound for a 1-0 Falcon lead.

The Falcons added an insurance goal late in the second period. Conover and Coppes started a breakway. Coppes eluded a charging Ollom, and played the ball into the net to make the score 2-0 at the 71:14 mark.

Samford was outshot 17-13. Bowling Green had nine shots on goal to the Bulldogs six shots. Freshman goalkeeper Cassie Coggans added a save for the Bulldogs in relief of Ollom. Flanders finished with six saves for the Falcons.

"I think we learned a lot about our team to take to the next game. Certainly, we played well, but learned even when we play well, there could be a letdown," Spitzer said. "We're going to move forward to the next game. Hopefully, this will all help us get ready for A-Sun competition next week."

The Bulldogs continue their Ohio tour when they take on Wright State, Sunday at noon (EST).
