Samford worked on its red zone and short yardage packages Wednesday afternoon. The Bulldogs have one more regular practice day to install their game plan for Saturday's game at in-state rival Jacksonville State.
"I thought the kids put together another good day. We did some good things on offense. Today was our day to go over short yardage and situational things," Samford head coach Bill Gray said. "We had a good red zone period. That's a place where we've not been as good as we need to be this year on both sides of the ball."
Defensively, the Bulldogs worked on retaining the new schemes and new adjustments that were put in this week. The defense will face the biggest running back it's seen this season in JSU's Rondy Rogers.
"It's very hard to simulate how big and strong that tailback is with our guys. Even though the defense has responded and gotten some good work in, they're going to see a much bigger and stronger tailback on Saturday. That's one of the things we're trying to stress to them," Gray said. "All in all, it was a good work day. I felt good coming off the field. I think the kids will be ready to go out there Saturday."
Samford will practice one last time Thursday before holding a walk-through Friday. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Paul Snow Stadium in Jacksonville.
