Volleyball Looks for First Road Win In Montgomery

The Samford Volleyball Team will be looking to get back to their winning ways on Friday at Alabama State. The Bulldogs had won five-straight matches before hitting the road for six straight. Samford has dropped the first four matches of the trip but face an Alabama State team tonight who they have beaten 17 straight times.

The Bulldogs road woes continued on Tuesday as Samford dropped a 3-0 match at Troy State. Samford is 0-6 on the road this season. The Bulldogs are playing their fifth match of a six match road trip and will try to snap their four match losing streak against an Alabama State team they defeated 3-0 back on Sept. 10. Kristin Berryman recorded her second double-double of the season at Troy with 10 kills and 10 digs. Hilary Gary also record to 10-kills to lead Samford. Alyssa Whitehead leads the team on the season with 189 kills and 179 digs.

The Lady Hornets have also dropped four straight matches. ASU is 2-8 on the season. Their two victories came against South Carolina State and Mississippi Valley State. Andrea Denson leads the Lady Hornets with 116 kills. Yevette Parker leads the team in digs with 52. As a team, ASU has a 1.31 attack percentage. ASU is 2-5 at home this season.

Junior Stefanie Pickett tied Tammy Worster (1994-97) for third place on Samford's all-time block assist list on Tuesday. Pickett and Worster both have 237 BS and trail only Melissa Karwowski (1992-95), and Shellie Ouldhouse (2998-2001). Krista Kettering has 2,426 career assists which moved her into third on the all time assists list. She trails second place Jennifer Hays (1994-97) by 532 assists. Series History: Samford has won 18 straight matches over Alabama State to take an 18-3 lead in the series. The last time Alabama State defeated Samford was Sept. 10, 1988 in Montgomery. The two teams met this season in Birmingham with Samford taking a 3-0 victory. Hilary Gary had 11 kills to lead the Bulldogs. Dionndra Freeman had five kills to lead Alabama State.
