BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Fresh off the Jason's Deli/Samford Classic championship, the Bulldogs will be looking for a repeat performance this weekend in Mobile. Samford will face South Alabama on Friday at 7 p.m. and McNeese State on Sunday at Noon in the Nike Port City Classic hosted by South Alabama.

Samford claimed the Jason's Deli/Samford Classic title with a 2-0 victory over Western Kentucky and a 3-0 victory over Birmingham-Southern. Lindsay Shanks, Lisa Robishaw, Kelly Christoffer, and Crystal Royall were all named to the All-Tournament team. The Bulldogs played all 26 players on its active roster Tuesday in defeating BSC. Shanks record two goals in the match while Robishaw scored in her second-straight match. The Bulldog defense was once again solid in recording its second-straight shut out.

South Alabama was untested in winning two matches against defeating Jackson State 18-0 and Prairie View A&M 16-0 to move to 2-0 on the season. Head coach Mike Varga recorded the 100th victory of his career against Jackson State.

McNeese State enters the tournament 0-2 after falling to Arkansas State and Arkansas-Little Rock last weekend. The Cowgirls were outscored 7-2 in their two matches. JoAnne Curtis has been involved in both goals this season she scored on a PK against Arkansas State and assisted on Helen Kibby's goal against UA-Little Rock.

The Bulldogs are 2-0 for only the second time in their five-year history. The last time Samford began 2-0 was the 1999 season when it won its first five matches and began 7-0-1. The Bulldogs had never began the season with back-to-back shut outs until this season.

Lindsay Shanks is up to her old tricks, she scored twice on Tuesday. She set a single-season record with 23 points as a freshman on her way to second-team all-conference honors. She was also on the A-Sun All-Freshman team along with teammate Heidi Kearns. She is now tied for fifth in SU history with 11 career goals. Lisa Robishaw scored again on Tuesday giving her goals in back-to-back matches for the first time in her career. The Samford record for goals in consecutive matches is four. It has been done twice.

The Bulldogs have never played South Alabama in soccer and are 1-1 against McNeese State. The last meeting against McNeese was an overtime match the Bulldogs won 2-1 on Oct. 25, 1998. McNeese took a 3-0 victory on Oct. 15, 1997 in SU's first year of soccer.
