The Samford football team returned to the practice fields Monday for the first time since Saturday's loss at Eastern Kentucky. The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1 OVC) had an upbeat attitude and worked out for just over an hour on fundamentals and previewing Murray State.
"Our spirits were really good today at practice," Head Coach Bill Gray said. "Obviously we are disappointed from Saturday, but we have forgotten that game and are pressing on. We can't carry last week's game into this week, we just have to learn from the mistakes we made and correct them by Saturday."
The Bulldogs will entertain Murray State (2-4, 1-1 OVC) on Saturday at Seibert Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Murray State beat Jacksonville State 23-17 in overtime last weekend to improve to 1-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Racers beat Samford 55-17 in Murray, Ky., last season.
"Murray State has a very talented defense coming in here on Saturday," Gray noted. "They have a great receiver, coupled with a big strong offensive line. They like to run the football and I have a lot of respect for them. The pushed us around a little bit last year and our guys know that they have to play well to have a chance on Saturday."
