Nov 22, 2003

Final Stats

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) - Ray Nelson's 35-yard touchdown pass to Efrem Hill at the end of the third quarter gave Samford a 17-14 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

Samford (7-4, 5-3 Ohio Valley Conference) took a 10-0 lead at the half on a 13-yard TD run by D.J. Stancil midway through the second quarter and a 45-yard field goal from Ty Neil with 54 seconds left.

Eastern Illinois (4-8, 3-5) got on the board with 5:17 left in the third quarter when quarterback Andrew Harris scored on a 7-yard run.

But Nelson's TD toss to Hill with 2:56 remaining was enough to secure the lead for Samford. Hill's catch set a conference record for most pass receptions in a season with 92.

Harris, who was 19-of-32 for 180 yards, hooked up with Jermaine Mobley on a 31-yard pass at the beginning of the fourth quarter for the game's final score.
