Samford continues to look for its first Atlantic Sun Conference win when the Bulldogs host UCF (9-8, 5-1 A-Sun) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the second game of a three-game home-stand. The Bulldogs (4-13, 0-6 A-Sun) take on a Golden Knight team which is tied for first place in the A-Sun South Division.
Florida Atlantic's Tamica Pierce recorded a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds and the Lady Owls outscored Samford, 43-18 in the second half as FAU rallied to defeat the Bulldogs, 60-46, in Atlantic Sun Women's basketball action at Seibert Hall Thursday night. FAU improved to 7-10 and 5-1 in the conference while Samford fell to 4-13 and 0-6 in the A-Sun. Chelsee Insell scored a career-high 17 points for Samford. Shontavia Williams and Angie Rodgers each scored 10 points for the Lady Owls. Samford shot a woeful 29 percent from the field and 42 percent from the free-throw line. FAU shot 48 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game shooting 37 percent. The Lady Owls forced 14 Samford turnovers in the second half while committing only five.
Adrienne Billings scored a team-high 17 points to lead four UCF players in double figures as the Golden Knights rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Belmont, 71-68, Thursday night. UCF shot 52 percent in the second half. Takira Allen added 16 points while Kristy Colligan scored 11 points and Jessica Scala added 10 points. With the win, the Golden Knights remained in a tie for first place with Florida Atlantic in the Atlantic Sun South Division. Allen leads the team averaging 10.5 points per game.
Samford and UCF meet for the 10th time with the Golden Knights holding a 7-2 advantage in the series. FAU swept last season's series, winning, 80-64, in Orlando and, 63-60, in Birmingham.
The Bulldogs play the final game in their three-game home-stand when they host A-Sun South Division foe Stetson next Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader at 4:45 p.m. at Seibert Hall.
