Women's Basketball Host Stetson

Samford continues cross-divisional play when the Bulldogs host Stetson Thursday. The Bulldogs (4-14, 0-7 A-Sun) will try to break its seven-game losing streak and pick up their first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season against the Hatters (4-14, 3-4 A-Sun). It will be the second home doubleheader of the season for the Bulldogs who will tip-off at 4:45 p.m. before the men's team host Stetson at 7 p.m.

True Freshman guard Chelsee Insell scored a career-high 19 points against UCF last Saturday besting her 17-point performance against Florida Atlantic last Thursday. Last week, Insell was 12-of-22 from the field including 7-of-15 from 3-point range. She also was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Stetson has three players averaging in double figures led by sophomore forward Kristy Brown who is averaging 16.3 points per game. The Bulldogs continue to rank fourth in scoring defense holding teams to 62.7 ppg.

UCF's Shayla Smith scored a career-high 13 points and Samford shot 25 percent from the field as the Golden Knights pulled away to defeat the Bulldogs, 71-49, in Atlantic Sun Conference women's basketball action at Seibert Hall Saturday afternoon. Insell topped her career-high for the second game in a row with a game-high 19 points for Samford. Insell went 6-of-11 from the field including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. The Bulldogs shot 20 percent from the field and 15 percent from 3-point range in the second half while UCF shot 46 percent and 57 percent from the 3-point range in the half. The Golden Knights finished the game shooting 43 percent.

Michelle Garcia scored 24 points to lead Stetson to an 82-78 win over Gardner-Webb in DeLand last Saturday. Kristy Brown added 19 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Joslyn Giles had 13 points and nine rebounds against the Bulldogs. The Hatters started the conference season 1-10 but have won three of their last seven games. Stetson ranks second in the conference in steals averaging 10.78 per game.

Samford and Stetson meet for the 10th time with the Bulldogs holding a 5-4 advantage in the series. The Hatters and Bulldogs split last season's series with Stetson winning, 61-48, in DeLand and Samford winning, 67-63, in Birmingham.

The Bulldogs hit the road for the first time in three games when Samford travels to Jacksonville Saturday at 1 p.m.
