The Samford softball team will put its 10-1 home record on the line against Stetson Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Bulldog Field.
The Bulldogs (21-12, 7-5 A-Sun) split with Jacksonville State on Wednesday giving Samford three wins in its last four games. Kelly Smith is 10-21 (.476) in the last six games. Of her 10 hits she has six doubles, a home run, and five RBI. Smith has taken over the team lead in hitting and is one RBI shy of the team lead and four RBI and two doubles shy of single season school records. Sarah Godfrey is 9 for her last 22 (.409) with three doubles and five RBI. Deanna Resmondo has six RBI in the last three games.
The Bulldogs are hitting .316 with 16 doubles and 13 home runs at home. Smith is hitting .419 with five doubles, three homers, and 17 RBI in home games. The Staff ERA is 1.38 at home and four of the six shutouts this season have been at Bulldog Field. Samford plays six of its final 10 conference games in Birmingham.
The double header will be Stetson's first venture outside the state of Florida this season. The Hatters have won three in a row after sweeping Troy State on April 6. Blake Hoorekbeke is 19-2 on the season with a 0.87 ERA. She has 130 strike outs in 129.1 innings and has seven shutouts. Offensively, Stetson is batting .285 as a team. Holly Burris leads the team with a .330 average. She has seven doubles, three home runs and 18 RBI. Melissa Wiggins is batting .313 with nine doubles, seven home runs, and 20 RBI. Stetson's staff ERA is 0.88. The Hatters have allowed more than five runs just twice this season and have 14 shut outs. Stetson is 21-1 at home this season and 4-2 on the road.
Samford holds a 10-8 lead in the all-time series with Stetson. The Hatters took both games last season in Deland, 4-3 and 7-0. The Bulldogs swept the last meeting in Birmingham 4-3 and 3-1.
