Samford's men's golf coach Mark Ware has inked two student-athletes for the 2003-04 season. Reed Davis (Cordova, Tenn.) and Bradley Pate (Jackson, Tenn.) will tee it up for the Bulldogs in the fall.
Reed Davis
"Reed is an excellent young player from the Memphis area, and played on Ryan Mayberry's high school team," Ware said. "Among numerous achievements, he was selected to the Greater
Memphis Area Best of Preps team. Reed will fit in well with our players, and will be a great asset on the golf course."
Davis, from Evangelical Christian School, was the 2002 runner-up at the Tennessee high school golf championship. Davis also placed 2nd in 2001 in the Tennessee state tournament. He was the winner of "The Memorial" tournament at Clarksville, Tenn., in the summer of 2002, and he tied for first at the Southeastern Junior Golf Tournament, shooting 69-71 at Bent Brook Golf Club in Birmingham in June '02.
Bradley Pate
"Bradley is a fine young man and and an excellent student," said coach Ware. "He recently won his division of the Tennessee State High School Championship, shooting a 66 in the final round. I believe Bradley will make an immediate impact on our program."
Pate prepped at the University School of Jackson. Pate won the Tennessee State Championship in Oct. '02, shooting 72-66 at Old Fort Golf Course. That win followed up a Sept. 16 victory at Riverside Golf Course in the District Golf Tournament. He shot 74. In 2001, he played on the Vince Gill Tennessee Junior Golf Tour, posting one win and four top-five finishes.
