The Samford men's golf team struggled in its second round at the Buffalo Rock/Birmingham-Southern Showdown Tuesday afternoon and finished tied for 11th for the tournament. The Bulldogs shot a 308 in the second round after shooting a 290 the first day. In his first ever tournament as a collegiate golfer, freshman Bradley Pate led Samford shooting a 72-73-145.
The Bulldogs finished the event tied with Nicholls State and host Birmingham-Southern JV with a two-day total of 598. Troy State won the event shooting a seven-under par, 569. Rounding out the field was: Tennessee State 573, Tennessee Tech 574, Mercer 575, Belmont 579, Birmingham-Southern 582, Centenary 583, New Orleans 589, Kennesaw State 592, Tennessee-Martin 593, Nicholls State 598, Samford 598, Birmingham-Southern JV 598, Jackson State 602 and Montevallo 626.
"This is going to be a wake-up call for us," Head Coach Woodie Eubanks said. "I am pretty upset about the way we played, but this is a group of young men who can play very well I look for them to bounce back. Bradley Pate played very well for us. I am proud of him and he showed a lot of character to play well when the rest of the team was struggling."
Behind Pate for the Bulldogs was Andy McRae 71-76-147, Reed Davis 73-78-151, Bradley Farmer 74-81-155 and Ryan Mayberry 76-82-158.
Samford will next compete October 13 at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Fall Invitational.
