BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford women's tennis team defeated Birmingham-Southern in four out of six singles matches at the BSC Fall Classic on Friday at the Birmingham-Southern Tennis Complex.
"The team did really well today," said head coach Terri Sisk. "We have not beaten Birmingham-Southern since I have been the coach at Samford and we are extremely happy to take this win home. Hopefully we will bring our same drive back tomorrow, as we play conference rival Jacksonville State."
In doubles, the Bulldogs lost two out of the three matches and went into the singles matches one under Birmingham-Southern. The top Samford competitors in doubles were Emily White and Sarah McKey, as they defeated Birmingham Southern, 8-2.
The Bulldogs turned it around in singles and finished with the match win 4-6.
To start it off in singles, in No. 1 White lost in a tie breaker (10-8), after winning the first match (6-2) and losing the second (3-6). In No. 2 singles, McKey won 6-2, 6-3, while in No. 3 singles, Katie McMiller won 6-4, 6-2. In No. 4 Amber Dyar lost in a tie breaker (10-6), after winning the first match (6-4) and losing the second 6-7 (4), while in No.5, Katie Crawford won 7-5, 6-4 and in No.6, Bethany Benson won 6-2, 6-2.
The Bulldogs will continue competition at the BSC Fall Classic on Saturday (Oct. 2), as they will battle Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m.
