BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford men's and women's tennis teams are set to host the Samford Bulldog Tournament on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 8-10 at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center, located on the campus of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Friday's competition will begin at noon, while Saturday and Sunday's competition is set for a 8:30 a.m. start. Along with Samford, Jacksonville State, Austin Peay, University of Alabama-Birmingham, Alabama A&M, University of Alabama-Huntsville, Birmingham-Southern, Lipscomb, Springhill College, Charleston Southern and Alcorn State will compete at this event.
"The women's team is very excited about the Bulldog Tournament," said women's head coach Terri Sisk. "In previous years, Samford has done really well at this event and we look to do so this weekend as well."
"We are excited about the strong field of competition this weekend," said men's head coach Kemper Baker. "We look to having a great weekend and are hopeful of capturing a title for this event."
LAST SEASON FOR THE WOMEN'S TEAM... The Samford women's tennis team sent five athletes into the semifinals and two into the finals at the 2003 Bulldog Open. Four of the five Bulldogs in the semi-finals were Emily White and Lauren Rowland who advanced into the finals of their respective brackets. The Bulldogs went 23-9 as a team.
LAST SEASON FOR THE MEN'S TEAM... The Samford men's tennis team claimed two championships and went 20-12 overall as a team at the Bulldog Open last season. Rob Nunnery won the "B" Singles group and the team of Joey Jenson and Stuart Misner won the "A" Doubles group.
All Samford Bulldog Tournament results will be posted to the official Samford Athletic website at samfordsports.com, after the conclusion of each day.
