Women's Basketball To Take On Nicholls State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University women's basketball team will play host to Nicholls State Thursday night at Seibert Hall.

Samford enters the game with a record of 4-1 overall, and is coming off a 61-48 loss at Alcorn State. Samford is led by sophomore forward Alex Munday, averaging 12.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Junior guard Cora Beth Smith leads the team in assists, averaging 4.60 per game. Smith is also second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per contest.

Nicholls State is currently 2-2 overall so far this season. NSU is coming off a 59-57 loss to the University of Mobile.

Samford and Nicholls State are meeting for the fifth time in women's basketball, with Samford holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. Last season, the teams met in Thibodaux, La., with Samford winning by a score of 57-47 on Dec. 2, 2003. The teams first met on Dec. 15, 1997, Samford's first year of women's basketball. NSU won the game, 77-64, in Thibodaux, La.
