BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford women's tennis defeated Wallace State 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center. Emily Nunnally led the Bulldogs winning #1 singles easily 6-0, 6-0.
"The girls played great this afternoon," Head coach Terri Sisk said. "We still need to work some on doubles, but we looked strong. We are playing four freshmen in the line-up and the progress they have made since the beginning of the season is outstanding."
The Bulldogs (2-1) started the match strong winning all three doubles matches. Emily White and Sarah McKey won 8-0 at #1, Jen Pharr and Bethany Benson won #2 doubles 8-1 and Christie Baker and Lauren Rowland won #3 doubles 8-3.
Samford rolled through the singles matches winning seven of the 12 sets 6-0. Nunnally, McKey and Jen Pharr all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. After struggling early Emily White rallied for a 7-6, 6-1 victory and Katie Crawford stormed back from down 2-1 in the first set to a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Bethany Benson battled her way through the first set of her match before emerging with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Samford will next be in action on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 against Montevallo. This match is a make-up date from last week. The match is at the Darwin C. Hardison Tennis Center and admission is free.
