"I give our guys a lot of credit down the stretch," said Samford head coach Jimmy Tillette. "Tech made some big shots that we found away to overcome. Tyson (Dorsey) and J. Robert's (Merritt) ability to shot the ball in the second half gave us a lift and we did what we had to do to win and that was make free throws at the end."

Leigh Gayden scored 20 points off the bench for Tennessee Tech (13-12, 7-7 OVC). The Golden Eagles held a 36-0 advantage in points off the bench. Willie Jenkins and Keyon Boyd added 12 points while Cameron Crisp scored 11 points for the visitors.

The teams traded three-point field goals as both teams shot the ball well in the second half. Tech went 8-of-14 from long range while Samford was 11-of-16 from three-point range in the second half.
