The Samford softball team will try to complete a sweep of its three-game season series against Jacksonville State on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Alumni Field in Jacksonville.

The Bulldogs (14-26, 6-5 OVC) took a step backwards dropping all three games last weekend at Eastern Kentucky. Samford committed six errors which led to 11 unearned runs for EKU. Kelly Smith continued her hot hitting as she went 6-for-10 in the series with two RBI, and two runs scored. Shelley Stanley hit her fourth home run of the year on Saturday. Smith and Stanley are tied for the team lead with 17 RBI. Emily Lewis made her first appearance in the circle since March 14, as she threw 3.2 innings giving up just two hits while striking out four.

The Gamecocks (26-16, 5-6 OVC) have dropped six of their last eight. JSU is in 6th place in the OVC at 5-6. Melinda McDonald leads the team hitting .456 with nine home runs and 44 RBI. Daniela Pappano is hitting .410 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI and Rachel Countryman has 14 home runs and 45 RBI. The Gamecocks saw their streak of 16 straight-game with a home run snapped by Samford last week JSU has failed to homer in its last two games dropping two of three to Tennessee-Martin over the weekend. Breanne Oleman has been the pitcher of record for the Gamecocks in each of their last six games. She is 8-4 on the season with a 2.43 ERA.

Samford took the first two games of the season series 4-3 and 4-1 last week in Birmingham to improve to 14-20 all-time against the Gamecocks. The Bulldogs are trying to sweep the season series from JSU for the first time since 1995.
