BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The Samford baseball team will play a pair of midweek games against cross-town rival Birmingham-Southern this week. The teams will play on Tuesday at Samford at 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at Birmingham-Southern at 6:00 p.m.
Samford enters the week with a record of 4-23 overall and 0-9 in the Ohio Valley Conference after being swept at Southeast Missouri State last weekend. Birmingham-Southern is currently 24-9 overall and 8-1 in the Big South after sweeping Charleston Southern over the weekend.
Under head coach Tim Parenton, Samford is 2-7 against Birmingham-Southern. Last season, the teams split two games. Samford won the first game, 6-3, at Samford, and the Panthers took game two on their home field by a score of 9-2.
Samford is led at the plate by Matt Alling, batting .420 (42-for-100). He also leads the team in RBI (31), hits (42) and triples (4). Stephen Artz has been the most consistent pitcher for the Bulldogs. He has pitched a team-high 46.1 innings, and has an ERA of 4.66. His 45 strike outs also lead the team.
