BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
Samford track and field head coach Glenn McWaters announced the signing of eight student-athletes for the 2005 season. The list includes athletes from seven different states spanning from Miami, Fla. to Gilbert, Ariz.
"Overall this is the best class that we have ever had," McWaters said. "As our program continues to become more successful, the easier it gets for us to recruit top caliber student-athletes."
Cameron Cardwell is the lone Alabamian on the list. She is from Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Ala. Cardwell has the best pole vault in the state this year, 11-09.00, and has qualified for the National High School Championships this summer.
Drew Anderwald is from Tuloso-Midway High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He is one of the top distance runners in Class 4A in the state of Texas.
Bo Brawner is from South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Ga. He is one of the top distance runners in Class 4A in the State of Georgia.
Michael Hanson is from Keller High School in Keller, Texas. Hanson was the Texas Private School Championships in the 1600m and 3200m as a junior. He is now considered one of the best distance runners in Class 5A in the state of Texas.
J.P. Kaal is from Gilbert High School in Gilbert, Ariz. Kaal is one of the best middle-distance runners in the state of Arizona.
Bill Kirtland is from Westwinster Christian High School in Miami, Fla. He is the best pole vaulter in South Florida.
Sean Rogers is from Chapel Hill High School in Douglasville, Ga. He is regarded as one of the best middle-distance runners in the state of Georgia.
Brandon Grass is from Franklin Road Academy in Brentwood, Tenn. Grass is one of the best pole vaulters in Tennessee and also competes in the decathlon.
