April 9, 2004

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford University volleyball team played a spring exhibition match against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in Seibert Hall Friday afternoon. The teams played six games, with Samford winning two. The scores of the games were 26-30, 32-34, 30-26, 24-30, 30-24 and 27-30.

"Overall, I was pleased with today's performance," Samford head coach Michelle Durban said. "We need to continue to learn from playing in matches.

"Allison Pickett did a nice job of running the court, and Callaway Logan did very well passing the ball," Durban said.

Hilary Gary led the team in kills in the match, while Logan was the team leader in digs. In the fifth game, a 30-24 Samford win, Abby Sites served an ace to secure the win.

Durban said she hopes to have Kristin Berryman and Kasey Buchtien back for the team's next scrimmage.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Apr. 17, when they play at Mississippi State.
